Venice: The Insatiable City State: Sites of the World's Cultures

Venice of yesterday
This DVD is another in Kultur's series of world cultures. It is 56 minutes long and lacks any subtitles, which is always an irritation. There are no extras.
What it does show are the festivals and celebrations - their history and some of today. The rise of Venice and its importance in trade routes, its arts, architecture and history are all well done.

Where this film disappoints is in the failure to give any information on the dilemma the city has faced in the past and even more so in the future with flooding. It could have been addressed when it mentions how some buildings were erected to a height of 9 stories and then collapsed; but the predicament of this city is ignored completely -an absolute shortcoming in understanding this city.
